Building the Cell Church in Vaasa, Finland

There were many manifestations of God’s healing power when our Senior Minister Colin Dye visited Vaasa to teach about the cell vision.

The conference was held in the Sion Church that has transitioned into a cell church over the last 7 years largely through following the principles adapted from Colin’s Discipleship Cell Explosion series of booklets. Its pastors Stefan and Marina Sigfrids have a vision to establish a ‘relationship-based’ church, and the theme of their Easter conference was ‘The Next Step’.
The Sion Church is a cell-based Swedish-speaking Pentecostal church in the small Finnish town of Vaasa with a significant Swedish-speaking minority. This youthful church has 330 members in cells, and a strong volunteer base as each cell volunteers in different aspects of church life. The church also has a 50-strong choir, and a vibrant youth team with a vision to impact Vaasa and Finland for God.

During the conference Colin shared his heart on disciple-making, and the mission of the church to reach the lost. Over the course of four days, Colin spoke on the following topics: ‘Jesus the Vine’, ‘Ezekiel’s Dry Bones’, and ‘How the Spirit Guided the Spread of the Gospel to Antioch’.With each night, the anointing of the Holy Spirit grew stronger and stronger, and many youth responded each night to the call of God, making a commitment to ‘walk the walk’ with God.

Many were healed during the conference

The power of God was also present to heal. Many people’s lumps disappeared, someone’s tinnitus was gone, and the back of a boy born with a curved spine was miraculously straightened. During the seminar sessions, Colin taught on the principles of equipping the church for work through simple but powerful illustrations of multiplication through discipleship.

Stefan described the vision behind conference: “A ship with great sails has been built and it is now ready to sail. What is needed now is the wind from the Holy Spirit to fill the sails, enabling the vessel to launch its lifesaving journey.Yes, we have experienced growth over the past years, but I believe God has prepared us for something bigger. That is why the cry for this conference is for the Holy Spirit to fill our sails with his wind.”

The church was also challenged by the ministry of Louis and Elmer Tagal, two pastors from the Philippines. After having been called by God to make disciples through the cell vision these two men went to work in the tribal regions of Mindanao, raising up 1,000 cell leaders, and planting three churches.

By the end of the conference, the Sion Church was envisioned to take the next step for God!
